Direct Primary Care is a refreshing way to deliver healthcare. It's genius is its simplicity. For a flat monthly fee, Well Life ABQ provides 80-90% of your healthcare needs.

What kind of patients, chose direct primary care

  • Busy people that want the convenience of getting ahold of their primary care provider when they need them, not 3-4 weeks later.

  • People with high-deductible insurance, cost-share or have elected to have no insruance. Direct Primary Care is genius in saving people money.

  • People who travel. Did you know that if you visit an Urgent Care out of state, your insurance plan will likely deny the entire bill because "it is out of network"? Well Life ABQ to the rescue. Many ailments can be treated remotely. Prescriptions can be called in to wherever you are. And you can follow up when you return. There are also Direct Primary Care Clinics springing up all over the country. Many of these clinics are happy to see a DPC member from another clinic for a nominal fee. No Urgent Care hassle or expense.

  • Families! Kids get sick. Kids need school notes. Parents and kids need to stay healthy.

  • People that want their provider, to actually know who they are. With a max of only 300members, Well Life ABQ actually knows your name when you call or visit. Most family practices have a patient panel of over 1,000 patients per provider. They aren't available when needed and they don't know you.

  • Membership is like being part of a family. There is a genuine "INVESTED" interest in keeping you healthy.

  • People that want to save money

Well Life ABQ is always looking to save you money. Supplements are discounted. Labs are discounted. In-office prescriptions are discounted AND many outside prescriptions can be discounted with coupons and other techniques. Well Life ABQ has saved members hundreds of dollars on labs and prescriptions. THESE SAVINGS HAVE BEEN REALIZED EVEN IN MEMBERS WITH GREAT INSURANCE!!

WHAT IS A NURSE PRACTITIONER?

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a licensed registered nurse (RN) who has had advanced education at the graduate level, including many hours of clinical training. In New Mexico, NPs must also have national certification in their area of specialty. NPs are board certified in such areas as family, adult, acute care, pediatrics, gerontology, psychiatry, oncology, and women's health. There are almost 800 NPs in New Mexico, providing health care to patients in every part of the state. For more information describing nurse practitioners and what they can do for you, watch this short You Tube video, Nurse Practitioners and Your Health or click on the PBS News Hour link on the right for another video about nurse practitioners.

Nurse practitioners work in all health care settings. NPs are in private health care practices, clinics, hospitals, schools, nursing homes, student or employee health centers, and everywhere patients receive health care. NPs are often the only health care providers in the rural areas of New Mexico. The New Mexico Board of Nursing licenses NPs in New Mexico as independent practitioners, so NPs aren't limited to working where there is a physician. And yes, we can write prescriptions.

There has been much research over the last 40 years showing that NPs provide excellent health care. NPs give their patients care resulting in health outcomes as good as (or in certain situations better than) those of physicians. NPs often spend more time with patients and their education and practice is based on listening closely to patients' concerns and providing individualized care. Patents who see NPs are more satisfied with their care and say their NP is very good about giving health advice. NPs provide high quality care in a cost effective manner. For more information, download detailed reports from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners on the quality of care and cost effectiveness of NPs.

Integrative Medicine make use of all appropriate therapies available to optimize a patient’s health.  Emphasizing the patient as a whole, treatment plans include all aspects of lifestyle.  As the word suggests, Integrative Medicine, INTEGRATES both conventional and alternative therapies.  Conventional medicine is not summarily rejected and only evidenced-based alternative therapies are utilized.

Principles of Integrative Medicine include:

  1. Patient and practitioner are partners

  2. Mind, body, spirit and environment are all factors that influence health and must be considered

  3. Both conventional and alternative therapies facilitate the body’s innate healing capacity

  4. The least invasive, most natural interventions are employed first-line whenever possible.

  5. Based in good science.  Is open to new paradigms.

  6. Health promotion and prevention are employed along with “treatment”

  7. Integrative practitioners are committed to self-development and should exemplify its principles.

Most of Well Life's members have insurance.  Some have low deductible and some have high deductible insurance.  Whenever possible we use your insurance for labs and tests. Its hard to imagine until you experience Direct Primary Care but you do not need insurance for 80-90% of your care. It is OFTEN more cost effective to NOT use insurance for the small stuff.  For patients with high-deductible insurance plans, membership and its discounts are a perfect match.  There are also those with medical cost share plans.  These patients are saving around $400-500 per month on premiums.  That leaves a lot of extra money in their pocket for self-care...and they are still covered for catastrophic events.  Liberty (a popular cost-share company)  is also partially covering some memberships now because they understand that committing to your health, helps the bottomline.  Your bottomline, their bottomline.  Most importantly, self-care covers your actual bottom (and your heart, brain, lungs, well-being and you)
